Alas, and what a tragedy to see many poor Filipinos suffering from the pangs of poverty. With a population that has reached almost 90 millions, about four million and soon to be added to this number if the government does not address this issue that more of our countrymen will cease to be productive and will cause more damageto our society.
We have had a devastating economy during the Marcos regime as told by those who experience his administration. And base from what we read and listen to the media, from Marcos to President Cory Aquino our lives were never improved thou, admittedly, fared better during the Ramos incumbency. when President Erap took over the Philippine economy again plunged to its lowest until Erap was forced out of office and the incumbent GMA presidency is no better than the rest.
To my young mind, I believe the people in government who should not be there in the first place to manage. Most, if not all are taking the people for a ride with their sweet talk and commitment with no positive result.
The health and Education aspect of our people are chaotic. A good number of young people does not finish elementary grade. Majority reaches only high school and still a few are privileged to reach college. Sick people die even due to a simple and curable ailment. And many more do not even reach the hospital alive due to none resources. The worst part is majority can't even enjoy three square meals a day. this is especially true to unemployed and even underemployed are faced with so many problems resulting to poverty. Because of being poor, people are driven to commit crimes or look for money in illegal means. Women are forced into prostitution and people live in streets with nothing for shelter. This is the picture of how Filipinos live for those living below poverty line.
The situation now has even worsen because of political instability. Politics play a dirty role in pushing us backwards instead of moving forward to eradicate poverty. Reason why many Filipinos leave for foreign countries to be able to feed their families, send children to school and find shelter for the homeless ones.
The pressing issue of charter change might be a good idea, but for as long as the same dirty people sit in government who think first of selfish interest other than the improvement of lives of people and the country in general, we will continue to experience this man made calamity of living in the nation were people wallow in poverty.
